Research Report: “Medical-Social Examination in Syunik Region”
“Goris Press Club” NGO, with the financial support of the US Embassy in Armenia, has released a comprehensive report titled “Medical-Social Expertise in Syunik Region,” conducted within the framework of the “People Need Social Support” program. The report sheds light on critical accessibility and information gaps faced by individuals seeking medical and social examinations in Syunik region, Armenia.
Key findings from the report reveal:
- Low information levels: Applicants for disability classification demonstrate a significant lack of understanding about legal regulations, application procedures, appeals processes, and their own health conditions.
- Limited access to support: Most applicants are unaware of their right to be accompanied by social workers, doctors, or NGO representatives during examinations.
- Physical accessibility challenges: Examination locations are often inconvenient and lack essential equipment and amenities.
- Unpredictable scheduling: The days and hours for examinations are irregular, leading to long wait times and uncertainty for applicants.
- Inadequate commission composition: The current commission solely comprises medical professionals, lacking vital input from social sector specialists.
Based on these findings, the report outlines specific recommendations aimed at improving the accessibility, transparency, and fairness of the medical-social examination process in Syunik Marz. These recommendations include:
